Concrete Contractors Hamilton is a concreting business based at Alma Street in Hamilton, working across the city and the wider Waikato. We have been laying concrete in this region for more than ten years and have completed over 200 projects for homeowners, builders, farmers and commercial property owners. We are fully licensed and insured, and every assessment we do is free.
We run our own crew. The people who measure your job are the people who prepare the ground, set the formwork, place the reinforcing and finish the pour. Nothing is handed to a subcontractor between the quote and the last trowel pass, which is why we can tell you on the day of the visit how the job will run and who will be on site for it.
Our work covers the full residential and commercial range: concrete driveways, house slabs and foundations, patios and outdoor living areas, paths and footpaths, shed and garage floors, commercial and industrial slabs, exposed aggregate, coloured and stamped finishes, polished floors, retaining walls, and repair work including crack sealing, epoxy injection, slab levelling, resurfacing and sealing.
Concrete driveways
Driveways are the largest part of what we do. A driveway carries vehicle loading every day of its life, and most of what determines how it performs is under the surface rather than on it. We excavate to the depth the ground requires, lay and compact basecourse, set the falls so water runs away from the house rather than toward it, place reinforcing to suit the loading, and pour to the thickness the use calls for. A standard car driveway and a driveway that takes a horse float or a delivery truck are not the same job, and we scope them differently.
We pour new driveways, replace failed ones including the break-out and removal of the old slab, and widen or extend existing drives where a second vehicle or a boat has changed what the space needs to do. Finish options run from plain and broom through to coloured, stamped and exposed aggregate.
If your driveway meets a public road, the vehicle crossing is its own piece of work with its own requirements, and we will tell you at the assessment what applies to your property so there are no surprises once the crew is on site.
House slabs and foundations
Foundation work is the highest-value concrete on any residential site, because everything above it depends on getting it right. We pour raft slabs, ribraft and waffle systems, strip footings, and thickenings for load-bearing walls, working to the engineer's drawings and the specifications on your consented plans.
Slabs are set out, boxed, drained and plumbed in coordination with the other trades, with the damp-proof membrane, insulation and reinforcing placed and inspected before any concrete arrives. We hold level tolerances tight enough that the flooring trade behind us does not inherit a problem. Where a site has soft ground, fill, a slope or a high water table, that shows up in the ground preparation and the drainage, and we work through it with the engineer rather than pouring over it.
We work with builders on new homes, on extensions and additions, and directly with owners on standalone slab work.
Patios, paths and outdoor areas
Concrete patios, courtyards and outdoor living areas are where finish quality is most visible, because people stand on them and look at them closely. We form these to the shape the space wants rather than defaulting to a rectangle, set falls that move water off the surface and away from the building, and cut control joints in a pattern that reads as part of the design instead of an afterthought.
Paths, footpaths, entranceways and steps are the same discipline at smaller scale. Access matters here: a back courtyard that a truck cannot reach is placed differently to a front patio that it can, and we work out the placement method at the assessment rather than discovering it on pour day.
Shed floors, garage floors and commercial slabs
Shed and garage floors take point loading from vehicles, machinery and racking, and are usually poured on ground that has not been engineered for it. We prepare and compact the base, size the reinforcing for the actual loading rather than a residential default, and set the falls and the door threshold so the floor drains and the door closes onto a clean line.
Commercial and industrial slabs are scoped on loading, subgrade, area, joint design and staging. A yard that takes forklift traffic, a warehouse floor that carries racking legs, and a hardstand that parks trucks all need different thickness, different joint spacing and different reinforcing. We price these per job after understanding what the slab has to carry and how the site can be staged around the business continuing to operate.
Farm and rural work sits in the same category: dairy yards, feed pads, silage bunkers, implement shed floors and rural entranceways, all on sites where access and turnaround for concrete trucks needs planning before the day.
Decorative and specialty finishes
Exposed aggregate is the most requested decorative finish in the Waikato, and the stone selection changes the result more than anything else, so we go through the options with you before the pour rather than after. Coloured concrete is oxide-mixed through the batch rather than applied to the surface, so the colour goes all the way through the slab.
Stamped and patterned concrete gives texture and pattern in the surface, and the pattern needs to suit the size and shape of the area to look right. We also lay polished floors, and seal decorative work to keep the finish reading the way it did on the day it was completed.
Concrete repairs, resurfacing and sealing
Not every concrete problem needs a new slab. Cracking that has not moved can be sealed. Cracking that has moved, or that runs through a structural element, can be epoxy injected. A slab that has settled unevenly can often be levelled rather than broken out. A driveway that is sound underneath but tired on the surface can be resurfaced instead of replaced.
We assess which of these applies before recommending anything, because the difference between a repair and a replacement is a large difference in cost, and the answer depends on what is happening below the surface rather than what the crack looks like from above. Sealing existing concrete is the other half of this work, and it is the simplest thing an owner can do to keep a finished surface looking the way it should.
